Boots, Nottingham

We were contracted by Morgan Ashurst, who are now known as Morgan Sindall, to carry out works to the new Boots Amenities Block in Nottingham, with an initial contract period of 10-weeks.

Once on site, we became involved with many other works packages, which resulted in our contract period being extended and lasting 46-weeks!

Our works involved new blockwork exterior walls to the Restaurant, which were then covered in a Sto Render System; new partition walls, tiling, floor screeding, fire boarding, fire stopping and the demolition of Warehouse partition walls and roller shutters.

We also became involved with many of the works in the “State of the Art” Distribution Warehouses. This included many high level structural openings for the new Conveyor System through the Warehouse walls. Most of these works, together with the cladding of the new support steels, all took place from Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPS).

Ebbsfleet International Railway Station, Nr Dartford, Kent 

Desertoak were required to price and then complete several of the smaller more specialised packages at the International Railway Station for AMEC.

These packages included stainless steel goods to the Police Offices, fixed furniture, blinds, decorations, work surfaces, window film, ironmongery and crash rails etc.

In total, the value of all our packages amounted to nearly £400k. This work was carried within the final weeks of the project, through to completion, and to a very high standard.

Alcester Properties Ltd Division of an Existing Retail Unit, Kettering, Northamptonshire for Alcester Properties Ltd

We tendered this project through Quantum Chartered Quantity Surveyors, with whom we have worked on many occasions previously.

The purpose of the project was to divide up an existing large portal framed Retail Unit into four separate individual units. 

The works involved demolitions, new internal and external drainage, general groundworks and road works; as well as new structural steelwork, new blockwork walls and fireproof Corus walls to the underside of the existing roof.

New utility services were also required and these were fitted into each of the new units. The works were programmed and completed within 12-weeks.

OCR Examination Board, Coventry

OCR employed Desertoak through the Architect, Panton Sargent Ltd of Worcester, to construct a large Mezzanine Floor to house the Office and Administration Staff. The project was awarded to Desertoak following the tendering process.

The Mezzanine Floor was a steel framed construction, with a poured concrete slab on permanent decking. New foundations were excavated and poured within the Warehouse and services run, without loosing the retained services. (SD - not sure about this last bit?)

A new Cafeteria was constructed below the Mezzanine Floor, the Post Room was relocated and a new Training Area was also built here.

Following the main works, suspended ceilings were then installed and sound proofing works were also carried out to other areas of the building.

The value of the project was £574k, which included all major services, fire proofing, partitions and finishes.

Webbs of Wychbold, Droitwich, Worcestershire

Our relationship with Webbs commenced with the demolition of their existing Greenhouses and the reinstatement of concrete bases for a new Temporary Storage Warehouse.

Since this order, Webbs have become a very good Client and, following some further small orders for maintenance works, we have subsequently completed many other projects for them.

We have also completed fit out works to various other concessions within their Main Store; overhauled various heating systems; refurbished their Restaurant and public services and generally carried out all aspects of building, repairs and service requirements.

Webbs are a rapidly expanding company and they have recently purchased a new site at West Hagley, where we have recently refitted the Kitchens’ and refurbished their Restaurant.

We have recently submitted our quotation to cover the existing landscaped Goods Area and move their tunnel style greenhouses.
